Close to five years ago, Mike McCann penned a number of important posts here at the Sports Law Blog pertaining to tanking in sports (links to all of the posts can be found
here). Over the course of the past two weeks, ESPN's
TrueHoop blog re-visited the issue in-depth with a number of thoughtful
posts. One of the TrueHoop
posts focused on the
research of Adam Gold that was presented at last month's
MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. As a follow-up to the conference, the author recently released a
video illustrating his findings in the context of the NHL, NFL, and NBA. Tanking is a fascinating topic from both a legal and economic perspective and has direct applicability to sports league policy.
